Contemporary Design
Brittany-based Miltonpriest is an artisanal design and manufacturing studio that specializes in handmade furniture and objects. Led by English designer Frank Maximilian, the studio brings together traditional craft processes and local materials to create informal furnishings with a poetic flair.
Like most pieces in the Miltonpriest collection, the Harold Chair was inspired by an evocative historical reference: gentlemens clubs, which were established in 18th-century London and reached their height of influence in the late 19th century. The first clubs such as Whites, Brookss, and Boodles were aristocratic in ambiance and permitted gambling, which was illegal outside members-only establishments. They were regarded as central to the lives elite men; an oasis for vital relaxation away from the drudgery everyday obligations. Once there, a gentleman would sink into a well-upholstered chair to enjoy his drink and perhaps a cigar.
