A pair of Chinese solid elmwood horseshoe folding chairs. Each chair constructed with a rounded metal mounted crestrail ending in outswept handrests. The back splat carved with qiling motif and cloud scroll, under a coiled dragon in a ruyi cartouche. A straight iron strut bracing the curving arm on the leg, the front legs with a hinged flat foot support, all parts with brass mounts. Seat with a soft woven mat, with dragons carved in relief on the front. The Jiao-Yi folding chair is a chair of honor, traditionally used only by persons of importance and court significance. It was also used in royal hunting and outdoor events as well as imperial travel.
