A long elmwood altar or console table with everted flanges or ‘qiaotou’ (commonly called “birds wings”), supported on recessed trestle legs with carved, stylized ruyi, a sacred fungus and with lingzhi carvings on corner spandrels of apron, symbolizing happiness, wealth and longevity. Shanxi province, China, 19th century.
