The reverse glass painted panel, beautifully painted in dreamy, muted colors, featuring elegant figures in a lush garden setting full of trees and flowering branches with pavilions in the background.
In the foreground a young couple appear to be coyly courting in a secluded grotto. Behind them, a group of young maidens, dressed in long flowing robes, with hair done up in elaborate coiffures, crowds around a table, partaking in scholarly arts.
Above the large reverse glass painted figural panel, another reverse glass painted panel with iterations of the Chinese character “Shou” – longevity – painted in gilt on a black ground.
The heavy carved hardwood frame also carved with a stylized “Shou” character to the top center, surrounded by Taoist symbols to the top panel. The bottom panel carved with a bat, a homophone of the word “Fu”, meaning fortune.
A pair of heavy metal hanging brackets to the top of the frame.
