These hand-carved wooden fragments originated as decorative elements of ornate Qing-dynasty furniture or architecture. Colored by red lacquer and gilt pigments, each fragment is carved in relief with Taoist immortals gathered beneath the branches of a tree. Among the immortals are the Sānxīng, the Three Star Gods of health, wealth, and longevity. Known respectively as Fú Lù Shòu, the three figures are folk deities that embody prominent star constellations and offer blessings for a good life. In the corner of each vignette is a large dragon, a fearsome symbol of strength, ambition, luck and power. Strung with wire for display as a wall hanging, the pair adds bright color and antique charm to any interior.
