Exceptional wrought iron floor lamp from the 1970s.
The naturalistic scene is set on an almost square plate with chamfered corners.
The shallow water, in which reeds and water lilies grow, can only be guessed at.
A heron spreads its wings with elegance and grace after a successful hunt. In its beak we see the fish it has caught.
In a natural-looking way, a long, twisted stem rises up in the middle of this shore scene, with the light bulb and lampshade mounted at its upper end.
At the bottom of the plate we find the inscription and date: Clapier. Fx Orange 1971
It is impressive how the artist has managed to create a delicacy and naturalness with a material that is in itself heavy and rigid. The water lilies are slightly curved, seeming to strive towards the light. The engravings on the wings and body of the bird hint at the feathers.
The reeds with their long, thin stems move when shaken and when there is a draught, just as a real plant would.
