Named for its half moon shape, demilune tables such as this were designed to sit against a wall, displaying precious objects and porcelain. Crafted by an artisan in China’s Hebei province, this exquisite 19th century demilune is unusual for its bulbous form legs, perfectly balanced to support the table’s solid plank top. The apron is carved with a finely beaded trim, continuing down each leg to the cloud-form scrolled feet. A luminous dark lacquer finish gives the table a glossy shine, beautifully worn from age and use.
