This camphor chest recreates a traditional form used for storage of clothing, linens, books and scrolls. Camphor (changmu) was the preferred wood for chests and cabinets not only for its beautiful grain and rich color, but also for its aromatic nature and its ability to protect against pests. The low trunk has a refined silhouette, simply designed without carvings or painted embellishments. Quiet and minimal, the trunk is decorated only by its dark brass hardware, dovetail joinery, and the warm color and swirling grain of its camphor construction.
