A French Regence walnut three-drawer commode en arbalete made in the manner of Thomas and Pierre Hache, ébénistes from Grenoble. This French Regence commode features a crossbow front, surmounted by a shaped two-plank top. The three hand-cut dovetailed drawers are adorned with exquisite bronze hardware, marking their curvy shape. The style is typical of the Regence period that saw the transition from King Louis XIV to Louis XV who was too young to reign at the time. In addition to the floral carved side posts, the commode is decorated with an exquisite carved shell on the skirt, announcing the stylistic vocabulary of the Louis XV period. The ensemble is raised on four feet, two of which are scrolled in the front. With its rich patina and its flawless lines inspired by one of the most famous families of French ébénistes during the 18th century, this French three-drawer chest, circa 1720 will bring an elegant presence to any room it is placed in, from a bedroom to a living room.
