An immensely attractive George II style walnut loveseat with shaped, upholstered back above an upholstered seat with two swept arms and standing on four square section cabriole legs. seat height is 18 inches.
The term “out-of-period” is trade talk for pieces made later than the style suggests, but (often), still with considerable age. These pieces are usually easy for an expert to spot as in almost every case, the maker tries to be too clever and embellish the design with his own interpretations. This one however is a rather rare exception, as every single aspect seems to conform faithfully to what one would expect in the early 18th century.
A genuine George I or George II version would be exceptionally rare. This one becomes so desirable as even a highly experience connoisseur would need to look underneath to spot the difference!
