An exceptionally large walnut fireplace surround measuring 7 feet and 8.1 inches (2.34 m) in width, carved in walnut with a beautiful patina. Originating from the Louis XIV period and crafted in a plain Provincial design. The surface accumulated a rich patina over time with traces of use manifested on its exterior. The moulded shelf set above a serpentine frieze centred by a flower arrangement and flanked by a fluted panel. On fluted jambs, the sides kept plain.
This exceptionally large and rare early 18th century fireplace surrounding or chimney piece can also serve as a very decorative console table adding beauty to a classical as well as a modern ambiance.
