A pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty yoke back armchairs from the 19th century, with carved splats, brown patina, serpentine arms and side stretchers. Born in China during the Qing Dynasty, each of this pair of armchairs features a tall back, topped with a curving rail. The central section presents a concave-shaped pierced splat, carved with calligraphy, a mythical creature and a flaming motif. The rectangular seat with woven rattan inset, is resting on four straight legs connected to one another through plain side stretchers and a delicately carved apron. The perfect contrast of shapes of the upper section, opposing the splat’s concave silhouette to the convex lines of the lateral supports, combined with the refined decor, will make this pair of 19th century armchairs a perfect decorative addition to any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or foyer.
