An exceptional antique Queen Anne silver lidded tankard with London silver assay marks for 1706. The tankard is lavishly decorated with a front cartouche bearing the Scottish crest for the Blane clan. The tankard is of cylindrical form with a splayed foot and with a domed fitted cover with a raised thumb piece attached to the S shaped handle. With gilding to the inside body the tankard has assay marks well disguised within the design and to the handle. An exceptional example with suggestions that the cover may possibly be a later Georgian addition.
